July 9th Fishing Report

I started the day at Jordan Creek in Whitehall, and things kicked off with promise—on my second cast, I landed a nice Largemouth bass. I thought it was going to be one of those great fishing days... but I was quickly proven wrong.

After about two hours with no further bites, I packed up and headed closer to home to try another spot—I believe it was the Little Lehigh Creek, though I’m not 100% sure. Again, on the second cast, I hooked into a solid rainbow trout under a bridge. Just as I was about to land it, it threw the hook and swam off. Unfortunately, that was the last action I saw there for the next few hours.

Still determined, I made my way to a lake in Longswamp Township at Hunsicker Grove Park in Mertztown, PA. This lake requires both a fishing license and a $20 seasonal pin, which can be purchased at a local bait shop. Sadly, the only thing biting here were the underwater branches—I spent most of the time getting snagged on trees, sticks, and whatever else was lurking beneath the surface.

To top it all off, the sunburn set in.

Despite the frustration, I did manage to catch one decent-sized sunfish, which you’ll see as the photo for this post. Some days are like that—plenty of casting, plenty of snags, and just enough action to keep you coming back.
