July 8th – Evening at Furnace Dam Park

This evening, I headed out to Furnace Dam Park in Emmaus after waiting for some storms to pass through. Once the skies cleared, I made my way down to the small lake. When I arrived, I saw two young anglers fishing off the cement drain, using bobbers and worms. From what I could tell, they weren't having much luck.

I started off casting from the small dock but didn’t get any bites, so I began walking around the pond. I tied on a pink rubber worm rigged with two small hooks and, about six casts in, I hooked into a 10-inch Largemouth bass.

As I continued working my way around the shoreline, I ended up snagging my line on a tree branch and had to switch to a pink and red plastic worm. Unfortunately, I lost two fish shortly after hooking them—they managed to shake off before I could bring them in.

Just as dusk was setting in, I decided to make a few final casts—and I’m glad I did. I landed a solid 14-inch Largemouth bass, weighing just over a pound.

Tomorrow’s plan is an exciting one: I’ll be fishing two new spots. One is in Whitehall and known to hold smallmouth bass—a species I’ve surprisingly never caught. The second is a private pond that requires a $20 seasonal pin, in addition to a fishing license, to gain access.

Stay tuned for updates—and as always, tight lines!
